Brush Chipping Service

In an effort to better serve our citizens, the Town's Streets Division provides a weekly brush chipping service.  However, this service is provided on a call-in basis only.  A customer needing this service should call the Narrows Town Office at 540-726-2423 to have their name placed on the chipping schedule.  The service is performed each Friday, and customers need to contact the office by no later than 4:00 p.m. on Thursday in order to ensure the service will be performed the same week.  Any customer contacting the office after that point will be placed on the following week's chipping schedule.

The following outlines the Town's policy regarding the brush chipping service:

Limbs shall be no larger than 6 inches in diameter and shall be placed butt first toward the curb.

Brush and limbs will not be disposed of that contain nails, wires, or any such material that may damage the chipper.

Yard waste (leaves, yard clippings) will still be collected and disposed of by Town crews if bagged and placed on the curb.

In order to accommodate more residents, chipping will be held to 30 minutes per pile, per resident.  Chipping may occur longer depending on the amount of requests from residents.

A list will be maintained at the Town office of all residents that have received their free 30 minutes of chipping service per fiscal year (July 1st through June 30th).  A fee of $30 (minimum charge) will be charged for each additional 30 minutes of chipping service provided after the initial free 30 minutes of chipping have been used.

All policies and procedures described above are set forth in the Narrows Town Code and are approved by the Narrows Town Council.  Therefore, no variances from these standard practices will be made by Town staff.
