You are invited to attend a public meeting to be held September 15th from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Pearisburg Town Hall. The open-house meeting will include a short presentation at 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Draft maps of the NRV’s critical natural hazards will be on display from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. PDC staff will be available to answer questions and collect comments
The New River Valley Hazard Mitigation Plan, which includes the Town of Narrows, is being updated this year. The New River Valley Planning District Commission’s hazard mitigation workgroup will be updating the plan by further identifying known hazards (such as flooding and severe weather), assessing potential risks, and developing mitigation strategies to protect lives and property and to prepare the region for disasters that may strike. As the group works through the planning process, information will be available at http://www.nrvpdc.org/HazardMitigation/HazardMitigationPlanning.html. The website has more on hazard mitigation, upcoming meetings, the 2010 draft plan and the approved 2005 plan, resources for disaster preparedness, and how you can submit comments during the plan development.
Narrows Art Gallery & Gift Shop
The Narrows Art Gallery & Gift Shop is located across from the post office on Main Street in downtown Narrows. It is tucked away between the BB&T Bank drive-thru and the main entrance.
The gallery displays and sells the artistic endeavors of local artists, artisans, and craft persons. The juried items are specifically offered at reasonable prices to suit every budget. This allows comfortable enjoyment of the arts as gifts or as personal expressions just for you.
The newly renovated space showcases quality art and handcrafted items - jewelry, furniture, painting, wood turnings, digital art, candles, knit apparel, iron works, soaps and lotions, purses, wall decor, sculpture, baskets, note cards, as well as Appalachian, coal, and local history.
The gallery is open Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

Fresh Items Available at the Narrows Farmers Market
We know have two vendors setting up each Thursday at the Farmers Market. They have a variety of fresh items to offer including produce and homemade bread.
We also have folks using the facility for yard sales and fundraisers on Saturdays, so keep an eye out for a good bargain.
